Episode 12 B – When Pigs Fly

Strange billowing of a white tarp lying on the ground caught my attention. Completely dumbfounded, I watched as the tarp came to life and began spiraling into the air, then snaking along the ground, then twisting vigorously all the way to the top of a 30 foot tree. It was truly possessed! As I stood watching, I realized the “twister tarp” was heading straight for the piggy pen. Four Big Black piglets were snorting and rooting around in their pen, were happily oblivious to the 30 foot tarp twister barreling towards them. Worry creased my brow – that tarp was really heavy, a big one measuring 100 ‘ x 100 ‘, and yet it was being flung around by an invisible force as if it were a sheet of toilet paper. Suddenly, I realized that I was witnessing a mini-tornado right on our property! Where would it stop, I wondered. My husband, Ernest, described what happened next as a “Wizard of Oz Moment”. As if by magic, the A-frame pig sty lifted up off the ground, spiraling higher and higher, two piglets peering dizzily out of the opening from feet above the ground, and the other two running madly in circles below, matching the crazy wheeling in circles of the pig pen. This was a pigs’ only tornado! Everyone on the farm stopped and stared at the floating pig pen, two little piggy faces peering out as it whirled round and round high in the air. The suction from the whirlwind was now picking up the metal panels of their enclosure, lifting them straight up into the air. The two little piggies on the ground were still running in circles, but their feet only touched the ground every 6th step! With a crash, the pig house along with the two piggies inside fell to the ground in a tangled heap , and the metal fencing lifted up and fell outwards flat on the ground. What a sight! We couldn’t believe our eyes. A calm descended on the chaotic scene as soon as the wind died down, to be shattered by the four piggies running in every direction, the walls had fallen apart and they were free!
